Campus Shootings

What is wrong with us? Is that the “in” thing? Is shooting the in thing? You meet a misfortune, and you go on a shooting spree? I guess we consider that cool.

• The Bath School disaster on May 18, 1927, caused the death of 45 people and injured 58.
• The University of Texas Tower sniping on August 1, 1966, caused the death of 16 people,(including the mother and wife of the shooter), and wounded 31 others.
• The Columbine High School massacre occurred on Tuesday, April 20, 1999, in which 13 students and a teacher, were killed as well as 23 others wounded.
• The Virginia Tech massacre on April 16, 2007, caused the death of 33 people, and another 21 people were injured.
• The Louisiana Technical College murders on February 8, 2008, involved 3 people.
• And the most recent of all being the NIU shooting on February 18, 2008, caused the death of 7 people, and injured about 18 people.

What a trend? Strange enough, some people actually think it is cool to take out their anger on the world. Some people think it is cool to commit homicide before suicide. We know you already hate yourself; you don’t have to terminate innocent souls also. I am fully aware that suicides are the 11th cause of death in the U.S. But sincerely, I would rather that suicides be the 11th and not homicides. I am not advocating suicides, but kill just yourself if you hate life that much.

You are making it harder for the people that still care about life. The victims of these killing, students and teachers, are people that have dreams for a better society. You are killing future employers, politicians…That is food for thought.

And for parents that play this blame game, blaming the video game, I think the fault is YOU. If you would check the rating on the games you buy or the ones your children play you might have seen it coming. I don’t think the government tells you to spoil your child. Well, if they told you to and you buy into their idea…sorry to say, YOU ARE A FOOL. If you are the parent that sees the inappropriate ratings, and still buys these games for your kids, you need a psychiatrist, because you really shouldn’t have the custody of that child.

The internet is great. But if you leave your child on the internet unmonitored, I should slap you. Tell me you are kidding…Do you really think that is wise? Please…

If you cannot take care of a child, do not bring them into this world to suffer, and/or torment us a few years down the line. Maybe if your brain did the thinking and not below your waist, we would not have such a sick cycle…A cycle we adore.
